A Camera Table Lamp

0

I am really enjoying upcycling bits and pieces to make table lamps and such like. After my coctail shaker lamp I remembered that I had an old Zenit SLR camera. So, armed with a small tripod and light fittings I set to work.

The Martians are coming!!!
Completed with the adjustable tripod.

The first step was to strip down the camera. Have you any idea how many small (tiny) screws there are in an SLR? I wanted to reduce the weight of the camera case and it innards. I also needed to get all 3 lenses out of the screw on lense housing.

Taking the camera apart. The essential tools, various screwdrivers, a Leatherman (never without it) and radio (also never without it).
Here we go, let’s get to work.

Two lenses came out after unscrewing every screw in sight. The third required another tool, a big hammer! The camera table lamp was taking shape!

The innards were discarded to make room for the electrics. All that remained then was to site the lamp holder (all? – took hours) route the wiring. drill a hole in the back. Et Voila!!! A Table lamp from an old camera!

"The Martians turned on their death ray"......
A great table lamp, bright enough to light any desk or work station.

One thing that really pleased me was that it turned out how I anticipated it. Most of the the other lamps made out of hurricane lamps, blow torches, etc. are fine, even good, but do not match the vision I had in my head when I started.

OK, where do I get more cameras? I weant to make more!!
